What We Look For In A Program Horse
Our equines are the true heroes of our program. Their unique physical movement, emotional sensitivity, and size create growth opportunities that simply can't be replicated in a traditional therapy setting. Each member of our herd is thoughtfully chosen for their calm nature, soundness, and willingness to connect with people. These incredible equine partners come from a variety of backgrounds, including show arenas, ranch work, and trail riding.
Our ideal candidates are:
-
Quiet, patient, and unflappable
-
Willing to work with various handlers
-
Sound with a consistent and steady gait
-
Require minimal specialized care (feeding, shoeing, medical)
-
Able to work alone or with other horses
-
Age 7 - 21 (younger or older will be considered based on soundness and level of training)
Care Lease
Each horse completes an initial assessment and a 30 - 45 day trial period before being accepted into the program. During their time with Free Rein, we cover boarding and feed, farrier care, routine veterinary care, and up to $1,000 in emergency veterinary expenses.
